the art of lingering




PRATT INSTITUTE, SENIOR THESIS MAY 2025

Somewhere along the line, the presence of black in a fixed white page became really important to me.

Inspired by the notion of lingering and how experiences extend beyond the moment, existing between presence, absence, and incompleteness.

Through autoethnographic research, I translate the intersection of physical and mental into a modular, spatial taxonomy. Lingering becomes tangible as both a question and structure: a space where presence is never fixed, but continually re-formed, remembered, and reassembled.

Brief:

Bobbi Brown seeks to develop a new flagship experiential destination seeking to develop a retail concept that enables self discovery . A relaxing atmosphere to slow her down, keep her in-store longer.

Bobbi Brown changed the face of beauty. With a powerful message to Be Who You Are and a natural look to match, we were the first to offer makeup for all women in a time when it was made for few.


Solution:

The store mirrors the intimacy of a walk-in closet, where customers can explore, learn, and immerse themselves in discovery- much like opening a beautifully designed makeup box.

Upon entrance, customers can interact with artists, browse through limited edition products as well as head into the private make-up studio.

university settlement

Partnered with University Settlement in a community-centered Pratt initiative to elevate learning environments for immigrant adult literacy students. Collaborated with a 12-person team to deliver a comprehensive design solution for a real-life client.

Took lead on the environmental graphics component, overseeing concept development, visual design, and execution.

Designing a 100 page book inspired by a conversation with my friend sparked inspiration for this exploration. This dialogue illuminated the pervasive tendency in human behavior – the inclination to project distinct personas based on our interactions.
